Updated!
Yes, Android Market is dead! Well, technically speaking.
Google keeps tinkering with their products, the latest victim being their digital media platform. Android market used to be the holder for all things android and more like music and books. However, this was a wrong or inadequate name for the platform.
This time the company has tinkered with a little more than the brand name. Google Play will be the new go-to place for music, books, movies, apps and games. No more jumping from one Google Music to Android Market to be able to get all your Google goodies. Kind of like the iTunes.
I kind of like the idea but I'm not sure of the name! Google Play? It sounds like a playground to me which is not adequate if you are looking to buy say business apps for example. But who am I to question the mighty Google?
Hear from Google themselves (notice the highlight):
With Google Play you can:
- Store up to 20,000 songs for free and buy millions of new tracks
- Download more than 450,000 Android apps and games
- Browse the world’s largest selection of eBooks
- Rent thousands of your favorite movies, including new releases and HD titles
Here's a rather cool video to kick you off in the right direction :)
